2011 USWCA Scot Tour

Granite Curling Club of Seattle

January 27-29, 2011 - In Progress

The Scot Tour. Rules: Eight end games. Scot Tour Team has hammer in first end and throws the top color on the score board. We will record points scored for the game for both teams. Thirds please post your scores each end. Welcome and Good Curling!

In January 2011, the United States Women’s Curling Association hosts the Incoming Scots' Tour. This reciprocal tour that occurs every ten years consists of 20 women from Scotland. In November 2006, the Royal Caledonia Curling Club hosted twenty U.S. women in a tour of Scotland. One of Granite’s women was fortunate to have been a part of this U. S. Team. Now it’s our turn to show the Scottish women American hospitality.

The Granite Curling Club has been invited to participate in this tour and has agreed to host these Scottish women. They arrive in Boston in early January and curl across the United States, ending here in Seattle. Since Seattle is fortunate enough to have been selected, we will extend invitations to other area clubs for their women to join us in Seattle. At this point, they are scheduled to arrive in Seattle on January 27th, 2011 and will curl two games here.

Preparations are underway for their arrival. We ask that Granite members house the Scots in their homes. The current schedule has them hosted by Granite members for two nights before staying in local hotel for the remainder before their flight home. We hope to provide them with local sightseeing in addition to their curling experience. Granite women curlers have the opportunity to curl against the Scots. The fee includes a Tour Pin, Tour Booklet and the opportunity to meet the Scottish women. Are we ready to take on the best? You betcha!!!

The Closing Banquet takes place at the Mill Creek Country Club. Members from the USWCA will fly in for the event. We encourage Granite members to attend.

The Tour started in 1955 when a US/Canadian Team went to Scotland. In 1966, a US Team followed up and since then has traveled there every ten years. This will be a memorable experience for our club members and a wonderful opportunity to create new friendships that can last a lifetime.

We will circulate an “interest” sheet to see how many of our members are willing to host the Scottish ladies and how many women want to curl against the Team. To help by housing the Scots you need to be able to host two women (the Scots have been paired throughout their trip). Each person needs their own bed (they may share a bedroom or bathroom). In most stays, you will be expected to provide breakfast for the women. They need to be transported to and from the curling club. You will enjoy your guests, they will be very gracious and you will have curling friends forever.
