Group Events

The 2010-11 Season is open for booking Curling Outreach Events.The curling club is available for events for many occasions: office parties, birthdays, a group get together or any other reason to have fun.

Please check the Calendar for available dates. Please contact the Curling Outreach team to schedule your event. They will be happy to answer any questions.

Below is some information about having an event at the club.

When is the club available for an event?

We typically offer ice time from early October through early April each year. Once curling leagues begin play in October, open ice time that does not interfere with events is made available for Outreach Events at the following times:

• Monday and Wednesday from 11am-3pm.
• Friday from 10am-2pm.
• A very limited number of Saturday afternoons and evenings, typically 6pm-10pm.
• Pre-season (mid-September to October) and post-season (April and May) we may have afternoon, evening and weekend events available. Please check the club Calendar for available times. If Spring Leagues are being played, there will be events until late May.

What is the cost of an event?

The cost of the event is $30 per person with a $700 minimum for weekday events and a $1000 minimum for weekend events. $100 of that price is a non-refundable deposit when the reservation is made. Full payment is required at the end of the event.

How do I book an event?

lease contact the Curling Outreach team via email to book an event. We are very responsive and during the season, we will have an Event Coordinator working on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to host events and respond to inquiries. If you have not heard back from us, please check your Spam folder for misclassified responses. Please suggest a preferred day for your event, the estimated group size, and if you'd like us to host the bar in your inquiry. We will send you a deposit form which you must complete and send back to us to have your event confirmed.

What methods of payment do you accept?

We accept VISA, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, check and cash. Full payment for an event is required the day of the event.

What does that cost include?

The fees include use of the ice and facility for up to four consecutive hours. This includes the brooms, rocks, rubber shoe grippers and everything else that is needed to curl. This price includes instructors from the Granite Curling Club who will teach your group how to curl. We will provide an appropriate number of instructors based on the number of people you anticipate. We will also provide a licensed bartender if requested.

What is the cancellation policy?

An event that is canceled within five days of the day of the event will charged the minimum rate. For example, a weekday event will be charged $700 and a weekend event will be charged $1000. The deposit will be forfeited any time an event is canceled regardless of the time frame of the cancellation. The value of the deposit will be subtracted from the total fee charged when an event is canceled after the five day deadline has passed.

Is there a waiver to sign? Are there any age limits? Can kids or teens curl?

All curlers are required to sign a waiver before going on the ice. Waivers will be provided at the club, or you can save time by downloading the waiver, then print and sign it, and bring it with you. Curlers under 18 years of age must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian before going on the ice. If a parent isn't coming to the event, you can download the waiver, then print and sign it, and send it with the child.

Typically, kids need to be 8 years old to have a chance of getting a rock into play. On the ice, an adult should accompany children under 10.

What if more or less people show up than we planned?

The balance is paid after the event and that amount is determined by the number of people who actually attended (subject to the minimum charge referred to in the “What is the cost of an event?” question above).

Is there a bar?

Yes, but you must use our licensed bartenders and make the request in advance when you schedule your event. There is a full bar with liquor, beer and soda.

How much does the bar cost?

We normally have a cash-only bar with standard prices. You may set up vouchers for drinks among your participants and we will charge you the appropriate amount for each beverage. We require at least $100 of business in the bar. The total bar bill will be on your payment receipt.

Instead of a bartender, can we just bring in beer and wine?

Of course. We ask that you obtain and post a temporary banquet permit which can be purchased at any liquor store for a nominal fee. Please observe all rules regarding alcoholic beverages.

Are there tables and chairs?

Yes. There are five tables and chairs that seat up to 40 people already set up with other tables and chairs ready to be set up if needed.

Can we hire a caterer to bring food or bring our own?

Yes. There is a full kitchen available for use.

Do you provide food such as lunch or dinner options?

We have a full kitchen that is available for our guests to use, but we do not provide a food menu. You may arrange for a caterer, bring your own food, or order delivery.

What should people wear?

Participants should:

• Carry in a pair of shoes with clean, flat, rubber soles with no metal hooks etc. that may scratch the ice. (Clean tennis shoes are ideal).
• Wear comfortable loose fitting clothing. (it is difficult to curl in tight jeans)
• Dress in layers with a light jacket, sweater or sweatshirt (initially it will be chilly on the ice, but you can get quite warm once you start playing). The air temperature is usually in the upper 30's.
• A ski hat and gloves may be appropriate if you chill easily

How many sheets of ice do we need?

A game of curling happens between two teams of 3 or 4 players, so there is typically a maximum of 8 people per sheet. There are five sheets in the club, so about 40 people may curl at once.

But, I only want to rent one sheet...

Sorry, we don't rent the sheets separately. Please consider attending one of our Open Houses.
