Club awards James Pleasants life membership, Lori Markham Service award

May 25, 2014 - 1:28pm -- Doug Potter

At Granite Curling Club's Annual General Meeting last Saturday, May 17th, the members reviewed highlights of the 2013-2014 season, went over our financial picture, and elected new board members. The major awards of the night went to James Pleasants, life membership, and Lori Markham, the Cruikshank award for service to the club. State champions and league winners picked up crystal.

Changes and events for next season include:

  • New rocks! These will be supported by a fundraising campaign in the 2014-2015 season.
  • Men's Challenge Round to be held at our club
  • New fee structure - shifting fees between membership and leagues. This shift was designed to be revenue neutral - fees are not increasing. Social members no longer have curling privileges, but the cost of a general membership, with unlimited subbing privileges, drops to $110.
  • League Oversubscription Policy - please see the policy at http://www.curlingseattle.org/system/files/forms-documents/League%20Over.... An important highlight is that for Skip's Choice leagues, a team is not considered registered until all four players have submitted their registration and payment. Once registration for next season is opened, please register early!

Thank you very much to departing board members Jenn Schleit, Pat Sweet, and Barry Van Weiringen, and secretary Em Good. A very special thank you goes out to Jim Sullivan, whose board term has also ended, after his time as club president and past president. New board members for the 2014-2015 season are David Cornfield, Molly McCarthy, Keith Schreiber, and Peter Sommer. Colin Ware became the club's secretary earlier this season as well. Returning board members are April Gale-Seixeiro, Avi Belinsky, Bret Dodson, Joe Roberts, and Paul Shafer.

Thank you to all our volunteers - the club would be nothing without you! Please keep an eye out for news about our annual golf tournament and barbeque (open to non-golfers), to be held on August 23.
