GCC U-18 boys team heading north for Optimist International Championships

The Granite Curling Club's junior boys under-18 team will be heading north on Wednesday, March 27th to participate in the 2013 Optimist International U18 Curling Championships at the Langley and Cloverdale Curling Clubs. The Optimist U18 Championship is the premier tournament for U18 teams throughout the world, and features some of the top young curlers from Canada, The United States and Japan. Representing Washington thhis year will be:The Granite Curling Club's junior boys under-18 team will be heading north on Wednesday to participate in the 2013 Optimist International U18 Curling Championships at the Langley and Cloverdale Curling Clubs. Representing Washington thhis year will be: Skip: Evan McAuley (18, Sammamish, fourth consecutive U18, Evan's last year)Third: Luc Violette (14, Granite Falls, third consecutive U18)Second: Nick Connolly (16, Seattle, fourth consecutive U18)Lead: Kyle Lorvick (16, Lake Forest Park, first U18) and Coach: Tom Violette (Granite Falls, third consecutive U18)

Opening ceremonies are scheduled for Thursday, March 28th at 6:30 PM at the Cloverdale Curling Club. Games begin on Thursday evening, with the playoffs scheduled for Sunday, March 31st. The closing ceremonies will be 4:30 PM on Sunday at the Langley Curling Club. Team Washington will be playing in Pool A with British Columbia, Japan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories and Saskatchewan. Their first game is versus Japan on Thursday evening at 7:45 at the Cloverdale Curling Club. For those going to Victoria to Men's World Championships via Tsawwassen, consider a short-side trip over to Cloverdale or Langley to catch a game from some of our best young curlers.
