Annual Meeting Highlights

June 27, 2023 - 8:22am -- Ryan Doerfler

The 2022-23 curling season is officially a wrap!

This past Saturday was action-packed, with a very popular Friends & Family event, an ice-out party, and and our Annual General Meeting (AGM). A recording of the AGM will be available soon. In the meantime, below are some highlights or you can view the entire slide deck on the GCC web site.
• Board Elections - Andrea Katkansky, Ashleigh Price, Lori Markham, and Shannon Brown were the top 4 vote getters in this year's election. 219 members voted, constituting 39% of the total members. My personal thanks to Chris Sherry, Kara McBroom, and Katie Manteca for serving on the board the past 2 years. Your contribution has been invaluable!
• Cruickshank Award - named after Cliff Cruickshank, a founder of GCC and its second president, this award recognizes those members that best exhibit the spirit of curling. This season's award was given to Scott McLean. Scott embodies our mission of welcoming new curlers and our club certainly wouldn't be the same without him.
• Lifetime Member Award - two lifetime awards were given at the AGM. This award is given to past and current members who have made a significant long-term contribution to the club. Myself and the rest of the GCC Board of Trustees were thrilled to give the award to both Joan Sienkiewicz and Paul Shafer. Joan has been an active club member since 1967, serving on the Granidiers (GCC Ladies Auxiliary Organization) in the 1970s and most recently helping with junior and high school curling this season. Paul is our bar manager and dramatically improved the operations and offerings over the years, while also bringing a spirit of community to the bar.
