Gail was a life member of Granite Curling Club. She and her husband Arnold Piper (past President 1960-61) were founding members of the Club. They answered an ad in the local newspaper looking for anyone interested in starting a curling club in Seattle. They started curling in the 1950 at the Ballard Ice Arena. Originally women were only allowed to be social members. When the current facility was built in 1960, they needed members and changed the rules to allow women to curl on par with men. She contributed significant time and energies to the club organization, league play, maintenance, and running bonspiels. She was routinely called upon to make up the draws for the April bonspiel. She was past President of the Granidears. The Granidears helped the club by contributing untold volunteer hours.

She loved the game, loved the people, and made many friends in the process.
