One of the many great things about the AGM is that it allows the general membership to elect four Board of Trustees members. This year will be especially important... who you elect will have the privilege of helping to determine when and how the club will reopen.

Many thanks to everyone that completed last month's COVID-19 survey! Your responses (which you can also view at this Adobe Acrobat file) were enlightening and inspiring. While there were a wide range of preferences on how and when to return to the ice, a common element was that reopening needed to happen in a safe manner.

Greetings GCC Members,

I hope everyone is staying healthy and enjoying the summer sunshine! With King County achieving Phase 2 of the Washington State's Safe Start Plan, this is a good time to let everyone know the Board's thinking about GCC's reopening relative to Phase 3 and 4.

Spring Closure

As many of you have suspected or even heard, our Granite Curling Club is now closed for the balance of the season. Given the rapid movement of this global crisis, the Board has been working diligently behind the scenes, meeting and corresponding frequently over the past several weeks. With the increasing severity of this crisis in our overall community, it did not seem realistic that we could be back up and running in a reasonable time frame to make the rest of the season viable.

Balance of Regular Season Closure Due to COVID-19

After much consideration, the GCC Board has decided to cease all activities at the club for the regular season, with the exception of those that contribute to existing national and international competitive commitments.

Larway wins National Senior Championship

Joel Larway, Doug Kauffman, Darren Lehto, and John Rasmussen won the National Senior Men's Championship in Fairbanks, Alaska yesterday. They go on to the World Championships in Kelowna, BC April 18-25. Margie Smith of Illinois took the Women's.

Granite wins 3rd Event at National Women's Bonspiel

The 72nd USWCA National Bonspiel wound up yesterday here with Centerville, Wisconsin taking the overall title and the Granite team of Cindy Garzina, Karen Brattesani, Christie Guttler, and Cathie Tomlinson winning the third event.

USA Curling selects new CEO

Jeff Plush, a 25-year sport and live entertainment industry veteran, is the new CEO of USA Curling. As a highly visible senior executive for multiple organizations, Plush served as the first Commissioner of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). Previously, Plush was the Managing Director of the Colorado Rapids Soccer Club and the Director of Corporate Development for a company that represented many Olympic athletes.
